QuiltPittsburgh.org

This is a web site for and by quilters in the southwestern Pennsylvania region. Our goal is to inform the community about the quiltmakers in the Greater Pittsburgh area and to provide information to quilters about events, guilds, and shops here. We post information submitted to us by groups within about 150 miles from Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Friendship Quilt

Pittsburgh Friendship Quilt

The Pittsburgh Friendship Quilt was displayed in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, in August 2008 after a 20-year "sleep" in the depths of Buhl Science Center and Planetarium on Pittsburgh's North Side (thanks to the Quilt Company East guild). In January 2009 it was again displayed -- this time at the Senator John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh -- and yet again in May 2009 at the Internationational Quilt Market, a trade show, also in Pittsburgh. Click here for more photos and for the story of this historic work: The Pittsburgh Friendship Quilt.
In October 2009 the quilt traveled to Houston, Texas, for a visit to the country's largest quilt festival, International Quilt Festival/Houston. See Lost but not Forgotten, an article about the quilt's visit to Houston.
